Argentina is enormously varied in types of land and in climate. Located in the southern most part of South America, situated between the Andes to the west and the southern Atlantic Ocean in the east. Bordered by Paraguay and Bolivia in the north, Brazil and Uruguay in the northeast and Chile in the west.
Being the second largest country in South America after Brazil and the 8th largest country in the world, Argentina is slightly smaller than India with a population of approximately 40 million inhabitants and a total area of 2.8 million kilometers.
Argentina is often described as a country of 'six continents' and there is a good reason for that. The existence of such diverse landscapes and climates all rolled up into one country has created a land of great physical extremes: jungles, deserts, enormous glaciers, breathtaking waterfalls, alpine lake regions, beaches, marshlands, majestic mountains like the Andes and others volcanoes, plains, ancient forests, canyons, woodlands, endless waterways such as lakes, rivers, lagoons and deltas not to mention over 2500 kilometers of ocean coastline.
What makes for such diversity ? Well it all lies in the very long latitude that Argentina enjoys one can go from a tropical and sub tropical climate in the North East to arid, dry and even tropical in the North West to temperate in the middle of the county and finally to sub antarctic in parts of the South.
Mt. Aconcagua at 6,952 meters is located in the wine making province of Mendoza offers the highest peak in the western hemisphere. In fact Argentina possess over 50 peaks which are over 6000 meters high !
In addition to all the incredible and very varied flora and fauna, which can be found all over the country. There are places such as 'Esteros del Ibera' in the province of Corrientes which possesses one of the largest wetland reserves in the world with animals that breed in tropical habitats. In the South one can visit the Peninsula Valdez on the Patagonian coast which has the largest penguin colony anywhere along with whales, sea lions and seals..all of which can be viewed from very closely.
Passion, Culture, Colors, Climate, Nature, Aromas and Tastes there are so many sensations that are evoked when one thinks of Argentina...This is the home of tango, gauchos, asados (barbeques) and a sports loving nation, where football reigns supreme.
Argentineans are a passionate and expressive people and maintain a real zest for life. Most visitors are awestruck by the natural friendliness and warmth not to mention the evident hospitality which is transmitted in such an open manner.
Unlike most Latin American nations, Argentina has a population that is principally of European descent, especially of Italian, Spanish, French and English origins. The mestizo portion of Argentina's population is very small, except in the northwest, because there has been little mixture between European and indigenous peoples.
Italian, Spanish (including Basque), French, German, British, Swiss, and East European immigrants came to Argentina during the 1880s; other large in-migrations of Europeans as well as population groups of Middle Eastern countries occurred in the 1930s and following World War II.
Argentina is truly a cultural melting pot!
